Save TikToks with Dewey - Never Lose Your Favorites

TikTok's Future is Uncertain, and Dewey Offers a Backup Solution
Currently, TikTok remains operational within the United States, however, its long-term viability is questionable. Several applications are actively attempting to attract TikTok’s user base and content creators. In response, a bookmarking and backup platform named Dewey has introduced a feature designed to preserve your preferred TikTok videos, granting you access even if TikTok were to become unavailable again.
From Twitter Bookmarks to a Multi-Platform Backup Service
Dewey initially debuted in May 2021 as a tool to help users manage their Twitter bookmarks, prior to the platform’s rebranding as X. The service has since broadened its capabilities to encompass backup and bookmarking solutions for a diverse range of social media platforms. These include Bluesky, Threads, LinkedIn, and Truth Social, alongside browser bookmarks.
According to the company’s official website, support for Reddit and Instagram is also planned for future implementation.
Responding to Potential TikTok Shutdown
The development team prioritized TikTok support in anticipation of a potential shutdown that was scheduled for Sunday. Although President Trump extended the initial shutdown deadline of January 19th by 75 days, the ultimate fate of TikTok remains unclear.
The key question is whether TikTok will pursue a joint venture with U.S.-based ownership to safeguard its market position, or if it will opt to withdraw from the country should it be unable to maintain its independent status.
Dewey's Rapid Response and First Video Support
Tom Harari, a co-founder of Dewey, informed TechCrunch that the team initiated work on an emergency TikTok backup solution last week. They continued development throughout the weekend to facilitate the launch of this new functionality.
This marks the first instance of Dewey extending its support to a video-centric social network.
Saving TikTok Favorites and Collections
With the release of the TikTok backup feature, Dewey users can now import all their TikTok Favorites and Collections (saved video folders) directly into their Dewey feed.
This allows for the permanent preservation of these videos – or, more accurately, for as long as Dewey remains operational. TikTok Collections will also be organized into dedicated folders within Dewey’s sidebar for convenient access.
Expanding Features and Platform Support
This addition builds upon recent expansions, including support for platforms like Threads and Truth Social. Furthermore, Dewey now offers the ability to filter bookmarks by date, export your data, and utilize Markdown export (*.md) for integration with tools such as the writing application Obsidian.
Pricing and User Base
Dewey is available as a free service for a single account. Paid subscription plans begin at $7.50 per month, providing backup capabilities for unlimited accounts.
These paid plans also unlock additional features, including automatic synchronization, advanced search functionality, enhanced export options, and more. Currently, Dewey boasts a user base exceeding 40,000, with 1,500 paying subscribers.
Bootstrapped Growth and Investment
Dewey was co-founded by Alex Prober and operated on a bootstrapped basis for its initial two years. Last summer, the company secured a small investment from an investor specializing in profitable, bootstrapped SaaS businesses.
