Datadog to Acquire Sqreen: Expanding Application Security

Datadog to Acquire Sqreen, a SaaS Security Platform

Datadog, a leading cloud monitoring platform, has recently announced its intention to acquire Sqreen, a security-as-a-service provider. Sqreen was initially established in France and gained early recognition by competing in TechCrunch’s Startup Battlefield back in 2016.

Understanding Sqreen's Security Capabilities

Sqreen delivers cloud-native security designed to safeguard applications directly. Installation of the sandboxed Sqreen agent initiates real-time analysis of your application, identifying potential weaknesses within both the code and its configuration.

While enabling Sqreen introduces a minor increase in CPU usage, it offers significant benefits. The platform is capable of identifying and highlighting potential threats.

Threat Detection and Incident Management

Users can customize threat detection rules to align with their specific security needs. The Sqreen dashboard provides a comprehensive view of application status.

Notifications are delivered promptly upon incident detection, accompanied by detailed information to facilitate effective response. For example, blocked SQL injection attempts are clearly visible, along with their origin, enabling preventative measures.

Comprehensive Attack Detection

Sqreen effectively detects a wide range of common attacks, including credential stuffing and cross-site scripting. Its plugin marketplace allows for the activation of additional modules as your product evolves.

Synergies Between Datadog and Sqreen

The integration of Datadog and Sqreen presents a logical progression, given the widespread adoption of Datadog for application monitoring. Sqreen’s robust product, combined with Datadog’s extensive customer base, promises enhanced security features for Datadog users.

Sqreen's Funding History

Sqreen initially secured $2.3 million in funding from investors including Alven Capital, Point Nine Capital, Kima Ventures, 50 Partners, and various angel investors. The company then participated in TechCrunch’s Startup Battlefield, reaching the final stage of the competition.

Subsequently, Sqreen joined the Y Combinator program. In 2019, a $14 million Series A funding round was led by Greylock Partners, with continued participation from Y Combinator, Alven, and Point Nine.

Acquisition Details

A definitive acquisition agreement has been signed between Datadog and Sqreen. The financial terms of the deal have not been publicly disclosed. The acquisition is expected to be finalized during the second quarter of 2021.
