Google I/O Returns as a Virtual Event
Last year, Google’s large developer conference was canceled due to the global pandemic. This year, the event will be held virtually, running from May 18th to May 20th. Participation will be free and accessible to everyone.
Google’s decision mirrors similar approaches taken by other tech leaders, including Apple, which is planning a virtual WWDC in June, and Microsoft, hosting a virtual Build conference from May 25th to 27th.

Facebook is currently testing Hotline, a new Q&A platform that blends elements of Clubhouse and Instagram Live. Unlike Clubhouse, creators have the option to activate their cameras during sessions, offering a visual component.
Twitch is expanding its policies regarding hate speech and abusive conduct to encompass behavior occurring outside of the platform itself. This change comes amid ongoing concerns and reports of harassment and abuse, both on and off the streaming service.
Apple’s Find My tracking network is extending support to third-party hardware, initially including e-bikes and earbuds. VanMoof’s S3 and X3 e-bikes will feature this functionality, displaying a “Locate with Apple Find My” logo.

Patreon has seen its valuation triple to $4 billion following a new funding round of $155 million, led by Tiger Global.
Following the collapse of its planned $5.3 billion acquisition by Visa in January, Plaid has secured $425 million in Series D funding from Altimeter, paving the way for an independent future.
Authentic Artists is pioneering the creation of virtual musicians powered by artificial intelligence. These AI musicians will conduct their own performances, starting on Twitch, and will be capable of responding to audience requests.
