HackerU Acquires Cybint for $50M - Cybersecurity News

HackerU Acquires Cybint to Form ThriveDX

HackerU, a Florida-based provider of cybersecurity and digital skills training, is set to acquire Cybint, a company specializing in SaaS-based cyber education. Sources indicate the acquisition value is $50 million, although official confirmation from either company regarding the price remains unavailable.

Expanding Global Reach

Previously, HackerU delivered digital workforce training to a diverse audience – students, post-graduate professionals, and community members – across the U.S., Europe, and Asia. This was achieved through strategic collaborations with various universities.

The integration of Cybint will broaden the combined organization’s global presence. Following the acquisition, the entity will operate under a new brand name: ThriveDX, representing “digital transformation.”

Financial Background

Cybint had secured $7.5 million in funding prior to the acquisition. HackerU, established 15 years ago, has raised approximately $100 million over the last four years. Investors include Prytek, Liquidity Capital, and Shintilla Cap.

HackerU has actively pursued global initiatives. A notable example is their partnership with Southern New Hampshire University. This collaboration resulted in the creation of cybersecurity boot camps designed to equip Black and refugee students in southeast Africa with remote training. The aim is to prepare them for sustainable employment opportunities.

Competitive Landscape

ThriveDX will primarily compete with 2U, which previously acquired Trilogy in 2019 for a substantial $750 million.

Leadership Statements

Dan Vigdor, co-founder and executive chairman of HackerU, stated: “The combination of our two companies’ positions the new ThriveDX group as the category leader worldwide and solidifies our ability to reskill and upskill individuals at any stage of their professional life.”

The Growing Demand for Cybersecurity Professionals

The increasing frequency of cybersecurity breaches, coupled with the widespread adoption of remote work, is driving significant growth within the cyber industry. However, a critical skills gap persists.

According to ISC2, approximately 3.1 million cybersecurity positions remained vacant in 2020. Furthermore, 63% of corporations reported a lack of adequately qualified cybersecurity personnel among their employees.

Vigdor further explained: “The pandemic accelerated a huge transformation across the global workforce, leaving companies in dire need of workers with specific skills — and job candidates in need of training.”

Cybint’s Role in the Future

Roy Zur, founder and CEO of Cybint, commented: “The Cybint team will support HackerU by signing additional partnerships and accelerating the development of software as a service (SaaS) training solutions with a strong emphasis on corporate training and cybersecurity education solutions globally.”
