Easy Income: Affordable Web Site Hosting Services

Early Online Income Attempts and a New Approach
In the 1990s, a prevalent method for generating online income involved pay-to-view advertisement platforms. These applications, installed on personal computers, compensated users based on the duration the application window remained open. While the individual payout rates were minimal, they could accumulate over time.
I once attempted to maximize earnings by registering with numerous such services – approximately twenty at the time – and allowing them to operate simultaneously on my computer throughout the day. My earnings gradually increased, eventually reaching around $15 after four months.
Subsequently, the terms of service changed, requiring periodic user interaction, such as clicking a button to confirm continued engagement. After months of diligently clicking "I'm still here" buttons, my total earnings neared $20 – almost the threshold for a check – the services were discontinued. The advertising model proved unsustainable, leaving users without compensation. This experience solidified my resolve to avoid similar online schemes.
With the intention of promoting legitimate online income opportunities for readers, I propose a business model suitable for individuals possessing basic web design and hosting skills, capable of generating consistent monthly revenue.
Generating Passive Income Through Affordable Website Hosting
I am not advocating for hosting a large number of high-traffic websites from a personal computer. However, securing 10 to 15 clients – friends or local businesses – for web hosting at $5 to $10 per month can establish a profitable business yielding $100 or more monthly. Is this challenging? Not particularly.
A previous tutorial detailed setting up a local web server for a WordPress blog. Extending this to host domains for others is a logical progression. For those hesitant to host sites on their own machines, a straightforward solution exists.
Invest in web hosting plans offering unlimited add-on domains. Providers like GoDaddy offer such plans at competitive rates, as do most web hosting companies.

Considering that unlimited web hosting typically costs between $10 and $12 monthly, the annual investment is under $150, providing the foundation for a new online venture generating passive income exceeding $10 per month. Ensure the chosen plan includes unlimited add-on domains and permits reselling of web space.
Many small businesses and individuals require only a basic web presence to share information with customers or acquaintances. You can offer hosting services to such clients at a lower cost than a full hosting account. This involves creating an add-on domain, linking their registered domain, and uploading or creating their website.
When a client wishes to host a domain with you, first modify the DNS settings within their domain registration account to point to your hosting account. For instance, if you use Webmasters.com, log into your hosting account to view the DNS settings.

In my case, the settings – NS26 and NS27 – are readily visible. Your specific settings will vary depending on your web host. Subsequently, access your client’s domain registration account and configure their DNS settings to match your hosting account.

With the domain correctly pointed, you must configure your hosting account to direct traffic to the appropriate web hosting directory. The procedure for creating an add-on domain varies slightly between hosting providers. Ensure you add the domain as a "hosted" domain, indicating you intend to host the website under your account.

Upon completion, a new domain folder will typically appear within the "addons" folder of your hosting account within hours.

As illustrated, I currently host numerous domains under a single hosting account. Each represents a potential website you could host for a client or local business for a recurring monthly fee, easily managed through platforms like Paypal. If a client requires website creation, and you prefer not to dedicate significant time or lack extensive web design expertise, free web design tools like CoffeeCup can be utilized.
Alternatively, consider installing content management systems like Drupal, Joomla, or WordPress to empower clients to manage their website content independently. Once the add-on domains are configured and serving content, minimal ongoing effort is required beyond collecting monthly payments.
