Mooncard Challenges Amex in France with Corporate Miles | Startup News

The French tech company Mooncard has established a partnership with Flying Blue, enabling its clientele to accumulate Air France miles. This marks a significant development as it represents the first instance in France where earning miles is possible through a payment card that is not issued by American Express.

Mooncard delivers corporate cards designed to simplify expense management. A considerable number of French businesses currently do not utilize corporate cards; however, financial technology companies have introduced solutions that can assist in streamlining these processes.

Beyond Visa cards, Mooncard facilitates effortless receipt capture through photo submission, detailed annotation, and streamlined expense reporting to accounting departments. The system allows for the configuration of varying spending limits and approval workflows.

This announcement is noteworthy because American Express has historically held a dominant position through its long-standing collaboration with Flying Blue. Previously, French organizations seeking mileage rewards as a benefit were largely required to choose American Express.

A key distinction lies in the fact that Mooncard operates on the Visa network. Given that numerous establishments do not accept American Express, this could be a compelling factor for businesses to switch from American Express. Employees are able to utilize their accumulated miles for personal travel.

Currently, 3,000 companies, along with a number of public sector organizations, are utilizing the Mooncard system.
