China Lifts Rare Earth Restrictions: White House Confirms

Trade Agreement Details Released by the White House
Further specifics regarding a trade agreement brokered between U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping were disclosed by the White House on Saturday.
The agreement includes China’s decision to lift export limitations on rare-earth minerals initially announced in October.
Resumption of Export Licenses
China will recommence the issuance of “general licenses” applicable to exports of rare earths, gallium, germanium, antimony, and graphite.
These licenses will benefit U.S. end-users and their global suppliers.
Reversal of Previous Restrictions
According to the Trump administration, the agreement effectively nullifies restrictions on rare-earth minerals that China had previously implemented in April 2025 and October 2022.
China's Dominance in Rare-Earth Production
China maintains its position as the world’s leading producer of rare-earth minerals, which are crucial components in the manufacturing of numerous technological products.
Recent restrictions announced by the Chinese government would have mandated foreign entities to obtain licenses for even minimal quantities of these minerals.
U.S. Response and Tariff Threats
In response to these restrictions, the Trump administration had threatened to impose an additional 100% tariff on Chinese goods.
Tariff Suspension and Pause
The White House has now announced the suspension of plans for the 100% tariffs.
Furthermore, other tariffs on Chinese goods will be paused for a period of one year.
This represents a significant development in the ongoing trade relationship between the two nations.
