Firefox Live Bookmarks: Change Update Interval

Adjusting Live Bookmark Update Frequency in Firefox

Users who frequently utilize Firefox's Live Bookmarks feature may find the default hourly update interval insufficient. Currently, the browser interface lacks a direct option to modify this setting.

While manually reloading each Live Bookmark via a right-click context menu is possible, this method becomes impractical when managing a large number of feeds.

Changing the Default Update Interval

The default update interval for all Live Bookmarks can be altered through a configuration setting. Begin by entering about:config into the Firefox address bar.

Subsequently, filter the displayed settings by searching for the following key:

browser.bookmarks.livemark_refresh_seconds

It's probable that this setting will not initially exist. If absent, right-click within the blank space of the settings list.

Creating a New Integer Value

From the context menu, select "New" and then "Integer".

Enter the key browser.bookmarks.livemark_refresh_seconds as the name for the new setting.

Set the default value to 1800. This corresponds to 30 minutes expressed in seconds.

The internal default value is 3600 seconds (one hour) if this setting is not explicitly defined.

Important Considerations

Exercise caution when adjusting this value. Setting it too low could result in your browser being blocked by the server you are accessing due to excessive update requests.

The minimum permissible value is 60 seconds, however, it is strongly advised against setting the interval to this minimum.
