Active Desktop Replacement for Vista - Bounty Program Success

Introducing the How-To Geek Bounty Program

We’ve initiated a new program, the How-To Geek Bounty Program. This initiative involves sponsoring software development projects stemming from suggestions submitted by our readership.

The second bounty was funded by Scott, who sought an alternative to the Active Desktop feature absent in Windows Vista.

Ave's DesktopSites: A Solution

Andreas Verhoeven once again delivered, creating Ave's DesktopSites. This application allows users to display images of websites directly on their desktop.

The placement of these website images is fully customizable, and they can be configured to refresh automatically on a set schedule.

Potential Uses

This tool can be utilized for various purposes, such as displaying current headlines directly on your desktop.

Alternatively, as Scott demonstrates, it can be used to showcase dynamically updating weather maps as your desktop wallpaper – a truly intensive application of the software!

Known Issues and Support

Should you encounter any problems while using this application, please post your concerns on the forum.

A known compatibility issue exists with dual monitor setups.

Suggest Your Project

If you have an idea for a new application or a fix for an irritating issue within Windows Vista, please start a thread on the bounty program forum.

We are currently evaluating submissions and will soon select the next project to sponsor.
