Bluesky Updates: Mentions Tab & Username Protection

Bluesky App Receives Key Updates: Mentions, Username Protection, and Reply Controls
The Bluesky social network has deployed a new application update. This release introduces a dedicated mentions tab within the notifications section, enhanced safeguards against username squatting, and refined options for managing reply sorting.
New Mentions Tab for Enhanced Notification Management
With the v1.96 update, a distinct mentions tab has been implemented. This allows users to view mentions in a segregated manner. Previously, all notifications were consolidated under a single tab.
Protection Against Username Squatting Implemented
Bluesky is now proactively preventing username squatting. When a user transitions to a custom domain, their original Bluesky username, complete with the (.bsky.social) suffix, is automatically reserved.
The platform clarifies that only the most recently used Bluesky username is reserved, and this reservation has no expiration date.
Addressing Impersonation Concerns
Recent events have highlighted the issue of impersonation. This occurs when individuals acquire domain names and subsequently register usernames mirroring those of individuals not yet active on the platform.
Previously, users circumvented potential username loss by creating a separate account during the switch to a custom domain. This new feature eliminates that need.
Enhanced Reply Display and Sorting Options
The update introduces greater control over how replies are displayed beneath posts. Users can now select between a linear or threaded view.
Furthermore, replies can be sorted using a variety of filters, including:
- Hot
- Oldest
- Newest
- Most-liked
- Random
Expanded Language Support
Bluesky, now boasting over 25 million users, has also broadened its language support. New translation options have been added for Nepali, Khmer, and Romanian.
