Black Forest Labs Secures $300 Million in Series B Funding
Black Forest Labs, a German artificial intelligence laboratory, announced on Monday the completion of a $300 million Series B funding round.
This investment has resulted in a company valuation of $3.25 billion.
Round Details and Investors
The funding round was jointly led by Salesforce Ventures and Anjney Midha (AMP).
A diverse group of investors participated, including a16z, NVIDIA, Northzone, Creandum, Earlybird VC, BroadLight Capital, General Catalyst, Temasek, Bain Capital Ventures, Air Street Capital, Visionaries Club, Canva, and Figma Ventures.
Use of Funds
The startup intends to allocate the newly acquired capital towards continued research and development efforts.
This will fuel innovation in their core technologies.
Rapid Growth and Industry Impact
Since its inception in August 2024, Black Forest Labs has experienced rapid growth and gained significant recognition.
The company specializes in the creation of foundational AI models designed for both image generation and editing.
Last year, it came to prominence after reports surfaced indicating that Elon Musk’s Grok chatbot leveraged Black Forest Labs’ models for image creation.
Widespread Adoption of Models
Currently, a substantial number of companies utilize Black Forest Labs’ models, including prominent names such as Adobe, fal.ai, Picsart, ElevenLabs, VSCO, and Vercel.
Flux 2: The Latest Advancement
Black Forest Labs recently unveiled Flux 2, its most recent image-generation model.
This iteration boasts enhanced capabilities in both text and image rendering.
Furthermore, Flux 2 can incorporate up to 10 reference images to ensure consistency in style and tone during image generation.
The model is capable of producing images with resolutions reaching up to 4K pixels.
Founding Team Expertise
The co-founders of Black Forest Labs – Robin Rombach, Patrick Esser, and Andreas Blattmann – bring extensive experience to the company.
Prior to establishing Black Forest Labs, they served as researchers instrumental in the development of Stability AI’s Stable Diffusion models.
