Jeff Bezos Predicts Millions Living in Space
Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon, recently participated in a public event at Italian Tech Week in Turin, Italy. During this appearance, he forecasted that a significant portion of the population – millions of individuals – will be residing in space within the coming decades, according to reports from the Financial Times.
Space Colonization Driven by Desire
Bezos, who also established the rocket company Blue Origin, engaged in a conversation with John Elkann, a member of the prominent Agnelli family. He articulated his belief that the impetus for space habitation will largely stem from individual desire.
He envisions a future where robotic systems undertake physically demanding tasks, while extensive AI data centers are positioned in orbit above.
A Competitive Vision with Elon Musk
This statement appears to be a response to similar predictions made by Elon Musk. Musk has long advocated for human colonization of Mars, estimating that up to a million people could inhabit the planet by 2050.
It raises the question of whether these extraordinarily wealthy individuals are becoming disconnected from reality, or if they possess insights unavailable to the general public.
Optimism Regarding the AI Investment Boom
Bezos also expressed a positive outlook on the current surge in AI investment. He characterized it as a beneficial “bubble,” differentiating it from previous financial bubbles.
He explained that this current investment is focused on “industrial” applications, rather than purely financial speculation.
A Future to Embrace
According to reports, Bezos concluded by stating, “There has never been a better time to be excited about the future.” This was reportedly met with a degree of uncertainty from the audience present at the Turin event.
