Beeper Redesign: New Desktop & iOS Apps Released

Beeper and Texts.com Merge: New Apps Released in Beta
Automattic, the company behind WordPress.com, completed the acquisition of the messaging application Beeper last year for $125 million. This followed an earlier purchase of Texts.com, both falling within the same communication service sector.
Following the merger, Beeper is now launching the initial beta versions of its redesigned applications for both iOS and desktop platforms.
App Development and Performance
According to a recent blog post, the desktop application was developed utilizing the existing codebase of the Texts.com app. Conversely, the iOS application was constructed entirely anew.
The company asserts that these updated applications demonstrate improved speed and reduced battery consumption.
Transition and Future Updates
Kishan Bagaria, founder of Texts.com, communicated via X (formerly Twitter) that while the previous app remains functional, a streamlined migration path to the new applications will soon be provided.
Currently, Beeper leverages Beeper Cloud for message storage and credential management across various services.
Enhanced Security and Features
Future iterations of the app will shift data storage directly to the user’s device. This will be accompanied by the implementation of on-device encryption, bolstering user privacy and security.
The new apps will also support the use of multiple accounts linked to a single messaging service.
Furthermore, the Mac application is slated to eventually enable users to send and receive iMessages.
Leadership Changes
Beeper was initially founded by Eric Migicovsky, previously the creator of the Pebble smartwatch and a partner at Y-Combinator.
After the acquisition, Migicovsky assumed the role of head of messaging within the organization. However, he recently announced a renewed focus on the revival of the Pebble brand.
