Atlassian to Acquire The Browser Company for $610 Million

Atlassian, a leading developer of productivity tools, has reached an agreement to purchase The Browser Company for $610 million in cash.

Reimagining the Browser for Modern Work

According to a statement released by Mike Cannon-Brookes, Atlassian’s CEO and co-founder, current web browsers were originally designed for general internet browsing, not for the demands of professional work.

He characterized the acquisition as a significant move towards redefining the browser experience, specifically for knowledge workers navigating the evolving landscape of AI.

The intention is to develop an AI-powered browser that is specifically optimized for the numerous SaaS applications frequently accessed through multiple tabs.

Continued Independence and Development

Josh Miller, CEO of The Browser Company, announced via a post on X that his company will maintain operational independence under Atlassian’s ownership.

Development will continue on Dia, the browser project initiated last year following the decision to discontinue work on their prior browser, Arc.

Miller indicated that this agreement will facilitate accelerated hiring and feature deployment, as well as expanded platform support.

Deal Timeline and Funding History

The completion of this acquisition is anticipated during the second quarter of Atlassian’s fiscal year 2026.

The Browser Company’s most recent funding round, held last year, secured $50 million at a company valuation of $550 million.

To date, the startup has raised a total of $128 million through various investment rounds.
