MrBeast on the Economic Crisis: His Take on Global Issues

The Impact of Proposed Tariffs on Businesses
Economic pressures are being felt across multiple sectors. From individual retirement accounts to international trade, the effects are widespread.
Recently, Donald Trump’s proposed tariffs on imports have drawn commentary from an unexpected source: 26-year-old content creator MrBeast.
MrBeast's Perspective
MrBeast, also known as a chocolatier through his brand Feastables, holds considerable influence, particularly among younger audiences.
He utilized X (formerly Twitter) to express concerns regarding the potential consequences of the tariffs for businesses like his own.
Tariffs and Manufacturing Costs
MrBeast explained that, counterintuitively, the new tariffs may make it more cost-effective to manufacture goods outside of the United States.
Specifically, he noted that producing Feastables chocolate bars for global sale is now cheaper outside the U.S. due to the 20%+ tariff on components.
Feastables' Current Production
Currently, Feastables utilizes production facilities in both Peru and the United States.
The company sources its cocoa internationally, emphasizing a commitment to paying farmers a living wage.
The Financial Implications
If Feastables were to import ingredients, manufacture in the U.S., and then export the finished product, the tariffs would create a substantial financial loss.
Therefore, MrBeast suggests it is more sensible to manufacture products intended for international sales directly in Peru, bypassing the tariffs altogether.
A Question of Foresight
In essence, MrBeast is arguing that the president’s tariff plans lack long-term strategic thinking.
The Importance of International Trade
The historical practice of international trade stems from the geographical limitations of crop cultivation.
Certain products, like cocoa, can only be reliably sourced from specific regions, leaving companies with limited options.
Ethical Sourcing and Financial Strain
MrBeast highlighted that Feastables already prioritizes ethical sourcing, including paying fair wages and utilizing certified beans.
“A random price hike was pretty brutal ngl,” he stated, acknowledging the significant impact on his business.
He expressed concern for smaller businesses, suggesting the tariffs could be detrimental to their survival.
MrBeast concluded by stating his company will adapt, but acknowledged the potential for hardship among smaller enterprises.
