Liz Meyerdirk established a strong reputation during her time at Uber, serving as the senior director and global head of business development for Uber Eats. She is now dedicating her expertise to women’s health as the newly appointed chief executive of The Pill Club.

This leadership change occurs during a challenging period for remote women’s healthcare services, as recent actions by the Supreme Court have restricted access to sexual healthcare for women.

“The current environment presents unprecedented challenges to women’s healthcare,” Meyerdirk stated in a blog post announcing her position. “The COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted care access, numerous states are actively attempting to limit women’s healthcare options, and last year the Supreme Court supported the reversal of the ACA contraceptive mandate, a decision potentially affecting up to 126,000 women who previously had employer-sponsored contraceptive coverage.”

Meyerdirk, an experienced corporate leader, aims to guide The Pill Club through these difficult circumstances. “These developments underscore the need for dependable, secure, and affordable access to women’s health and birth control, highlighting a vulnerability within our healthcare system,” Meyerdirk explained.

The Pill Club, currently profitable and operating at a $100 million annual run rate, is well-positioned for future growth under Meyerdirk’s leadership.

The company has successfully distinguished itself in the competitive online prescription and fulfillment market by concentrating specifically on women’s health and maximizing service accessibility for potential patients.

“We currently serve hundreds of thousands of women across the country, with 20% utilizing Medicaid,” Meyerdirk reports. “We are authorized to prescribe in 43 states and the District of Columbia.”

Meyerdirk’s background in logistics and fulfillment gained at Uber Eats provided a seamless transition to the prescription and delivery of medications like birth control.

“The role requires significant logistical expertise,” Meyerdirk commented.

As she assumes her new role, Meyerdirk indicated that The Pill Club will broaden its services beyond birth control and contraception to address additional customer needs. “We are responding to requests from our customer base for expanded offerings,” Meyerdirk stated.

Initially, this expansion will include dermatology services. Last year, the company launched a delivery service for contraceptives and women’s hygiene products, such as pads and tampons.

Alongside its expanding product line, the company is also strengthening its executive team. In addition to Meyerdirk, David Hsu has joined as chief financial officer and Jeremy Downs as senior vice president of growth. Hsu previously led the $4 billion acquisition negotiations with PayPal while at Honey, and Downs brings five years of growth leadership experience from Uber Eats.

“We require consistent, long-term access to women’s healthcare, not merely a temporary solution during the pandemic, and we need coverage for vital health services like birth control and prenatal care, regardless of insurance status,” Meyerdirk wrote. “Reproductive care remains central to our business, but there are numerous opportunities to support women throughout all stages of life, from puberty through menopause.”
