The application process for Startup Battlefield is officially underway! This past year presented considerable difficulties for entrepreneurs, but your dedication has allowed you to continue innovating. Now is the opportune moment to showcase your accomplishments to a global audience.
TechCrunch is actively seeking revolutionary and pioneering startups worldwide to participate in Startup Battlefield at TechCrunch Disrupt 2021 this autumn.
Competition and Prizes
Competing startups will vie for a $100,000 equity-free prize. Furthermore, they will gain exposure to investors internationally and receive extensive media coverage from a leading technology news source.
Eligibility and Application Process
Startup Battlefield welcomes early-stage ventures from all locations and across all industries. A Minimum Viable Product (MVP) is a requirement for applicants.
Interested founders can submit their applications through the designated application portal. Each submission undergoes review by a member of the TechCrunch editorial staff.
TechCrunch maintains a commitment to accessibility: there are ZERO application or participation fees. Additionally, TechCrunch does not acquire equity in participating companies.
Comprehensive Training Program
Startups chosen to present will participate in an intensive training program spanning several weeks. This program is designed by the Startup Battlefield team.
Founders will refine their pitches, optimize their business models, and enhance their presentation techniques. Access to master classes led by industry experts covering startup building, marketing, and scaling will also be provided.
The Pitch Event
Approximately 25 startups will be selected to pitch on the main stage at TechCrunch Disrupt 2021.
Each founder will have six minutes to present, including a live demonstration, followed by a question-and-answer session with a distinguished panel of judges.
Esteemed judges include Kristin Green, Aileen Lee, Alfred Lin, Susan Lyne, and others.
Following an initial round, the highest-performing companies will advance to a final round, pitching before a new panel of judges. The winning startup, as determined by the judges, will receive the Disrupt Cup and the $100,000 equity-free prize.

Neesha A. Tambe has extensive experience in identifying and nurturing early-stage companies. She was responsible for the recruitment, sourcing, evaluation, and training of startup founders participating in TechCrunch’s international Startup Battlefield competition.
International Program Leadership
Demonstrating a commitment to expanding technological reach, Neesha spearheaded startup initiatives across diverse global regions. These programs were successfully implemented in locations including Berlin, San Francisco, Latin America, the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), and Sub-Saharan Africa.
Her expertise extends to both domestic and international market scaling of products and programs. This involved adapting strategies to suit the unique challenges and opportunities presented by each region.
Community Building and Investor Connections
Beyond program management, Neesha played a key role in fostering a thriving ecosystem for Startup Battlefield participants. She oversaw the Startup Battlefield Alumni Community, providing ongoing support and networking opportunities.
Recognizing the critical need for funding, Neesha also conceptualized and launched CrunchMatch. This program, developed under the TechCrunch umbrella, directly connects startups with potential investors.
Educational Background and Personal Interests
Neesha’s academic foundation is rooted in a deep understanding of societal structures and political dynamics. She holds a dual degree in Sociology and Political Science from Georgetown University.
Her educational journey also includes an Associate of Arts (AA) degree from De Anza Community College. Her thesis work specifically focused on the crucial topic of Sustainability.
Outside of her professional endeavors, Neesha is dedicated to several important causes. These include social justice, active civic engagement, the advancement of carbon capture technologies, and maintaining physical well-being through reformer pilates.
