AirPods Pro 3 Live Translation Feature Delayed in the EU

A prominent capability of Apple’s recently released AirPods Pro 3 is real-time audio translation. However, it appears this functionality will not be available to users within the European Union upon initial release.

Details published on Apple’s official support page outlining features available with iOS 26 indicate that individuals residing in the EU, or those utilizing an EU-registered Apple ID, will be unable to access the live translation feature.

This feature is driven by Apple Intelligence and is also slated for implementation on AirPods 4 and AirPods Pro 2. The delay is specifically attributed to the interoperability stipulations outlined in the Digital Markets Act (DMA).

DMA Compliance and Data Protection

Apple clarifies that the postponement is not related to concerns surrounding user data protection regulations. The company emphasizes that the DMA’s interoperability requirements are the sole reason for the temporary unavailability.

Previously, Apple encountered similar regulatory hurdles that necessitated a delay in the rollout of certain AI features within the EU. Access to these features for EU users was ultimately granted in March 2025.

This article has been updated to include a statement from Apple.

The situation highlights the complexities of navigating differing regulatory landscapes when deploying new technologies, particularly those involving artificial intelligence.

Users anticipating the live translation feature in the EU will need to await further updates from Apple regarding compliance with the DMA.
