Apple to Create 20,000 US Jobs & Build New North Carolina Campus

Apple Announces $430 Billion Investment and Expansion Plans
Apple revealed a substantial investment strategy this morning, committing over $430 billion over the coming five years. The company asserts this initiative will generate widespread economic benefits across all fifty states.
Job Creation and Growth
This plan is projected to result in the creation of 20,000 new jobs within the United States during the specified timeframe. The announcement represents a significant expansion of a previous commitment made in 2018.
The original $350 billion goal has been increased by 20%, signifying a heightened dedication to U.S. investment. A key component of this expansion is the establishment of a new campus in North Carolina.
North Carolina Campus and Investment
A $1 billion investment will be directed towards the Research Triangle area. This will facilitate the creation of 3,000 jobs focused on pioneering technologies such as machine learning and artificial intelligence.
State leaders jointly expressed their enthusiasm, highlighting North Carolina’s conducive business environment, esteemed universities, and skilled workforce. They emphasized the state’s welcoming communities as key factors in Apple’s decision.
This development is expected to positively impact communities throughout the state, fostering economic growth and attracting industries offering high-quality employment opportunities.
Community and Infrastructure Funding
In addition to the campus development, Apple has allocated a $100 million fund to support communities and schools in the Raleigh-Durham region. A further $110 million will be invested in infrastructure improvements.
Tim Cook's Statement
Tim Cook stated that Apple is reinforcing its dedication to U.S. innovation and manufacturing during a period of recovery. This is being achieved through a substantial, multi-generational investment impacting communities nationwide.
The company is focused on generating employment in advanced sectors, including 5G, silicon engineering, and AI. Furthermore, Apple is committed to fostering a more sustainable and equitable future.
Expansion Across Multiple States
Additional U.S. operational initiatives are planned for Apple’s home state of California, as well as Colorado, Texas, Washington, and Iowa. California will receive the largest initial investment.
Specifically, 5,000 new employees will be added to the San Diego office, and an additional 3,000 positions will be created in Culver City. States like Indiana, Kentucky, and Texas have already begun hiring as part of the $5 billion Advanced Manufacturing Fund launched in 2017.
Context: Foxconn and Manufacturing Trends
This announcement follows a recent decision by Wisconsin to scale back plans for a large Foxconn plant intended for flatscreen TV manufacturing. The planned factory was previously lauded by former President Donald Trump as a landmark achievement in bringing manufacturing back to the U.S.
Trump had actively courted tech leaders, including Tim Cook, in an effort to revitalize domestic manufacturing.
