Spotify Audiobook Purchase Now Available in US - Apple Approval

Spotify Audiobook Purchases Now Available Directly on iPhone
Spotify announced on Monday that Apple has given approval for a new application update. This update enables iPhone users located in the United States to directly acquire individual audiobooks within the application itself.
Users are now able to view the pricing of audiobooks and conveniently purchase additional listening time, extending beyond the initially provided 15 hours.
Easing Access for Audiobook Lovers
“This modification diminishes the obstacles for a greater number of users to experience their first – or subsequent – audiobook,” Spotify stated in their official announcement. “It also facilitates publishers and authors in connecting with fans and expanding their reach to new listeners effortlessly.”
The implementation of this feature arrives after a recent decision by a U.S. court. The ruling mandated that Apple cease imposing fees on transactions completed outside of the App Store.
Improved User Experience
Previously, users were compelled to make audiobook purchases via the web before accessing them through the iOS app. This update represents a significant enhancement to the user experience.
Spotify had previously removed the option to purchase audiobooks in 2022. This was a direct result of Apple’s stringent regulations concerning in-app purchases. Now, audiobook acquisition is streamlined with just a few taps.
Simplified Top-Up Purchases
Prior to this update, iPhone users needed to access the web to buy additional listening hours, known as “top-ups.”
The new update allows these purchases to be completed directly within the app. Each top-up is priced at $13 and provides an additional 10 hours of listening time.
Recent Changes to App Store Policies
Earlier in the month, Spotify initiated the allowance of iPhone users to procure subscriptions outside of the App Store. This was made possible by Apple’s approval of an update that provided access to pricing details and links for external payment methods.
This change further demonstrates the evolving relationship between Spotify and Apple regarding in-app purchases and user accessibility.
