Apple AirPods 3rd Generation: New Design & Spatial Audio

Introducing the Third Generation AirPods
The AirPods have been available for almost five years. While the product family has expanded, the fundamental design of the base model has remained largely unchanged until now.
A Redesigned Listening Experience
Apple has officially unveiled the third-generation AirPods. These new earbuds feature enhancements that align them more closely with the functionality and aesthetic of the premium AirPods Pro.
The updated design incorporates shorter microphone stems and a more sculpted form factor, eliminating sharp edges for improved comfort.
Pricing and Availability
The new AirPods will be available for purchase at $179, representing an increase from the previous generation’s price of $159.
Pre-orders are being accepted starting today, with shipping scheduled to commence on October 26th.
Enhanced Features and Performance
Beyond the visual changes, these headphones now offer a six-hour battery life. This is coupled with a new charging case, similar to the AirPods Pro, that supports MagSafe charging.
A redesigned “low-distortion” driver is now responsible for delivering the audio experience. Furthermore, spatial audio, previously exclusive to the AirPods Pro and AirPods Max, is now available.
Durability and Controls
Sweat and water resistance has finally been added, making these AirPods more suitable for exercise and active lifestyles.
The new headphones also adopt the force-sensor controls found on the AirPods Pro. Users will now control playback and other functions by gently squeezing the stem, rather than tapping.
Second Generation Availability
Apple will continue to offer the second-generation AirPods at a reduced price of $129.
