Sentry Raises $60 Million Series D at $1 Billion Valuation

Sentry Achieves Unicorn Status with $60 Million Funding

Sentry, a company specializing in application performance monitoring, has officially reached a valuation of $1 billion. This milestone was achieved through a $60 million Series D funding round.

Investment Details

The funding round was spearheaded by Accel, New Enterprise Associates, and Bond, with both Accel and New Enterprise Associates being previous investors in the company. Accel initially provided seed funding to Sentry back in 2015 and has participated in every funding round since.

Company Growth and Client Base

To date, Sentry has secured a total of $127 million in funding. The platform currently serves a substantial client base of 68,000 organizations globally.

Notable clients utilizing Sentry’s services include prominent names such as Disney, Cloudflare, Peloton, Slack, Eventbrite, Supercell, and Rockstar Games.

Core Functionality and Future Development

Sentry’s core offering centers around monitoring applications to proactively identify potential problems. This allows developers to address bugs before they escalate into outages or negatively impact user experience.

The newly acquired Series D funding will be strategically allocated towards product development. This includes expanding language and framework support, as well as bolstering the company’s teams in San Francisco, Toronto, and Vienna.

Expanding Market Reach

While Sentry’s solutions are applicable across diverse industries, the company is experiencing significant growth within the gaming and streaming media sectors.

Furthermore, increased demand is emerging from industries undergoing digital transformation, including finance, commerce (particularly grocery delivery), and healthcare.

Recent Product Launch

In July, Sentry introduced frontend monitoring software specifically designed for Python and JavaScript applications.

According to Milin Desai, Sentry’s CEO, the response to this new feature has been overwhelmingly positive, confirming a critical need for enhanced code observability.

Focus on Observability and Analytics

Sentry is prioritizing the connection between errors and performance issues, enabling developers to understand the impact of code changes on their user base.

Future plans include the release of advanced data and analytics features, alongside enhancements to the free, self-hosted version of the platform.

Industry Perspective

Dan Levine, a partner at Accel, stated that the shift towards digital-first operations has made application health a crucial business priority.

He believes this positions Sentry for substantial future growth, given its role in ensuring application reliability and performance.
