Anysphere Launches AI Coding Subscription - $200/Month

Anysphere Introduces New Ultra Subscription for Cursor
Anysphere has announced the release of a new subscription tier for its Cursor AI coding tool, priced at $200 per month, as detailed in a recent blog post.
This new Ultra plan provides a twentyfold increase in usage capacity for AI models sourced from leading developers including OpenAI, Anthropic, Google DeepMind, and xAI, when contrasted with the existing $20-a-month Pro plan.
Enhanced Access and Features
Subscribers to the Ultra plan will also benefit from prioritized access to upcoming features and improvements within the Cursor platform.
According to Anysphere CEO Michael Truell, the introduction of the Ultra plan was facilitated by long-term agreements established with AI model providers.
Industry Trend of Premium AI Access
Several prominent AI companies, including OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google DeepMind, have recently launched higher-priced subscription options – ranging from $100 to $250 monthly – to cater to power users and provide expanded usage allowances.
Financial Growth and Market Position
The launch of the premium Cursor subscription is anticipated to further bolster Anysphere’s already substantial revenue stream.
The company recently reported an annualized recurring revenue (ARR) of $500 million, with Cursor being utilized by major corporations like Nvidia, Uber, and Adobe.
Rapid Expansion and Competitive Landscape
Anysphere has experienced exceptionally rapid growth, achieving a $100 million ARR faster than many companies.
Cursor’s ARR has increased by $200 million since April, demonstrating continued momentum.
However, the development of AI-assisted coding tools is becoming increasingly competitive, with many AI model providers now creating their own solutions.
Competition and Strategic Moves
OpenAI reportedly acquired Windsurf, a competitor to Cursor, to strengthen its portfolio of AI coding products.
Simultaneously, Anthropic is actively developing Claude Code, an internal AI coding tool leveraging its established AI models.
Potential Challenges and Anysphere’s Response
The long-term sustainability of Anysphere’s growth trajectory, given the increasing competition from AI model providers, remains uncertain.
More assertive competitive strategies are emerging within the AI coding sector.
For instance, Anthropic recently limited Windsurf’s direct access to Claude AI models in an effort to challenge OpenAI.
Developing Proprietary AI Models
Anysphere is proactively investing in the development of its own AI models to complement those offered by OpenAI and Anthropic.
In May, the company introduced the “Tab” AI model, designed to suggest code modifications across multiple files.
Industry Outlook and Partnerships
Jared Kaplan, co-founder of Anthropic, expressed confidence in a continued partnership with Anysphere during a recent interview.
Anysphere’s multi-year partnerships with Anthropic and other AI providers suggest these collaborations are stable.
Despite this, the competition for users in the AI coding space is intensifying.
