Anthropic Reportedly Raising $2B at $60B Valuation - LightSpeed Leads

Anthropic Pursues $2 Billion Funding Round
According to reports from The Wall Street Journal, Anthropic, a competitor to OpenAI, is currently negotiating a new funding round of $2 billion.
Lightspeed Venture Partners is expected to lead this investment.
Valuation and Total Funding
The Journal indicates that this round would establish Anthropic’s valuation at $60 billion.
Based on data from Crunchbase, successful completion of this funding would increase Anthropic’s total capital raised to $15.7 billion.
This would position the company as the fifth most highly valued startup in the United States, following SpaceX, OpenAI, Stripe, and Databricks.
The Need for Substantial Investment in AI
The development and expansion of artificial intelligence technologies necessitate significant financial investment.
This is largely due to the substantial computational resources required for these processes.
For comparison, OpenAI secured $6.6 billion in funding in October of the previous year.
Similarly, xAI, the AI venture founded by Elon Musk, raised $6 billion in November.
Strategic Partnership with Amazon
Should the current round be finalized, it will supplement the $4 billion investment Anthropic received from Amazon in November 2024.
As part of this agreement, Amazon Web Services (AWS), Amazon’s cloud computing service, was designated as Anthropic’s primary partner for AI model training.
Furthermore, Anthropic will collaborate to optimize Amazon’s AI accelerator chips.
