Anthropic and IBM Announce Strategic Partnership - AI Collaboration

IBM and Anthropic Collaborate to Integrate AI into Software
Technology leader IBM is forging a partnership with the AI research organization Anthropic to incorporate artificial intelligence capabilities directly into its software offerings.
IBM, headquartered in Armonk, New York, revealed on Tuesday its plans to integrate Anthropic’s Claude family of large language models into several of its software solutions.
Initial Integration and Enterprise Guidance
The initial application of Claude will be within IBM’s integrated development environment. This tool is currently being piloted with a limited number of clients.
Furthermore, IBM has jointly developed a comprehensive guide with Anthropic. This resource details the processes for enterprises to construct, implement, and sustain robust, enterprise-level AI agents.
Partnership Details and Anthropic’s Enterprise Focus
The specific financial terms of this agreement have not been made public. TechCrunch has contacted IBM seeking further details regarding the long-term vision for this collaboration.
Since the launch of Claude Enterprise in September 2024, Anthropic has been actively expanding its presence within the enterprise market.
Recent Enterprise Deployments
Just prior to the IBM announcement, Anthropic revealed a separate agreement to provide Claude access to Deloitte’s extensive global team of approximately 500,000 consultants. This deployment represents the largest enterprise-wide implementation of Claude to date.
Claude’s Growing Enterprise Preference
A study performed by Menlo Ventures in July indicated a growing preference for Claude models among enterprises, surpassing even those offered by OpenAI.
The research also highlighted a trend of decreasing usage of OpenAI’s models within enterprise settings since 2023.
- Key Partnership: IBM and Anthropic are working together.
- AI Integration: Anthropic’s Claude models will be added to IBM software.
- Enterprise Focus: Both companies are prioritizing enterprise AI solutions.
