AMD Next-Gen Data Center GPUs: Release Date & Details

AMD Accelerates Launch of MI350 Data Center GPUs

AMD has announced an accelerated timeline for the release of its forthcoming Instinct MI350 series of data center GPUs. The launch is now planned to occur earlier than initially projected.

MI350 Sampling and Production Ramp-Up

During the Q4 2024 earnings conference call, Lisa Su, AMD’s CEO, indicated that the MI350 will be provided for sampling to key customers within the current quarter. Furthermore, production shipments are being expedited to commence in the middle of the year.

Previously, the expected launch timeframe for the MI350 was the second half of 2025. However, due to favorable development progress and substantial customer interest, AMD is moving the production schedule forward. This adjustment is intended to enhance the company’s competitive position.

Data Center Revenue Growth

While AMD’s data center revenue currently remains lower than that of its competitor, Nvidia, the company has demonstrated significant progress. It has successfully secured and maintained partnerships with major clients such as Meta, Microsoft, and IBM.

In 2024, sales of AMD Instinct chips exceeded $5 billion. The company anticipates a “double-digit” growth rate for its data center segment in 2025.

Financial Performance and Future Outlook

Last year, revenue from the data center business accounted for approximately half of AMD’s total revenue, reaching $3.9 billion out of a total of $7.1 billion, as reported on Tuesday.

Lisa Su expressed confidence in the continued strong demand for AI compute. She stated that the MI350 will serve as a key driver for the expansion of AMD’s data center GPU business.

The company forecasts that its data center business will grow to reach tens of billions of dollars in revenue over the next few years.

Investor Response

Investors reacted positively to AMD’s fourth-quarter financial results. As of the time of publication, the company’s stock price had increased by 4.58%.
