AWS Outage Impacts Internet Services - What Happened?

A significant disruption is currently impacting Amazon Web Services, causing widespread connectivity issues across portions of the internet.
As reported on its system status page, multiple AWS services began encountering difficulties early Wednesday. Consequently, any application, website, or service dependent on AWS infrastructure may also be unavailable. (This was personally experienced earlier today when a Roomba device lost its connection.)
Amazon indicates that the primary impact of this event is concentrated within North America. While the cause of the outage remains unspecified, the company acknowledges elevated error rates and confirms ongoing efforts to restore service. Notably, the outage is also hindering the company’s capacity to provide updates on the Service Health Dashboard, demonstrating that Amazon itself is affected by the disruption.
Several organizations that utilize AWS have publicly reported experiencing problems as a result of the outage, with Adobe and Roku among those affected.
