AWS Suspends Parler Services - 24 Hour Notice

The social media platform Parler faces potential shutdown as its user base was rapidly expanding following the removal of President Donald Trump from established, large-scale technology platforms.
BuzzFeed News reports that Amazon Web Services, the provider of Parler’s essential cloud services, has communicated its plan to terminate its relationship with the company within the coming day. Parler’s application relies heavily on AWS infrastructure, which is vital for the platform to function. Previously, Apple announced it was joining Google in removing the app from its App Store, citing concerns regarding insufficient content moderation practices.
Parler experienced significant growth as individuals dissatisfied with the restrictions placed on the former President’s voice on prominent social media sites migrated to the service; however, it has now become a focal point in the ongoing debate surrounding the boundaries of online free expression and responsibility.
According to Parler Chief Executive Officer John Matze, the platform anticipates being unavailable for a minimum of one week while they undertake a complete reconstruction of their systems following notification from AWS. Certain Parler users, as evidenced by screenshots circulating on Twitter, expressed ambiguous threats of violent action against AWS data centers, potentially validating Amazon’s rationale.
