Amazon Chime Shut Down: What You Need to Know

Amazon Chime Service Discontinuation
Amazon Chime, positioned as a competitor to platforms like Zoom and Google Meet, is being discontinued. Amazon officially announced on Wednesday that support for Chime, encompassing its Business Calling functionalities, will cease on February 20, 2026.
The company has already ceased the onboarding of new Chime accounts, with February 19, 2025, marking the final date for new registrations.
Continued Functionality During Transition
Until the official end-of-life date, current Amazon Chime users will maintain the ability to schedule and conduct meetings. User management and access to the administration console’s features will also remain available, as detailed in a recent company blog post.
Importantly, the Amazon Chime SDK will remain unaffected by this decision and will continue to operate independently.
Data Management and Alternative Solutions
Customers are strongly encouraged to proactively delete their data associated with Amazon Chime prior to the shutdown date. A migration to an alternative web conferencing service is also recommended.
Amazon suggests considering options such as AWS Wickr, Zoom, or Salesforce’s Slack as potential replacements.
Shift to Zoom as Official Meeting App
Initial reports from Business Insider indicated that Amazon will designate Zoom as its primary meeting application moving forward.
Limited Adoption and Rationale for Shutdown
Introduced in 2017 with a business-centric approach, Amazon Chime experienced limited uptake outside of internal Amazon operations. This restricted adoption was a significant factor in the decision to discontinue the service, according to a company representative.
An Amazon spokesperson explained to TechCrunch via email, “The decision to retire a service is generally based on the availability of superior alternatives or the existence of partner solutions that effectively serve both our customers and our internal teams.”
“In the case of Amazon Chime, its external usage was constrained, and our partners provide robust collaboration tools, leading us to prioritize those solutions.”
