Amazon Assists Biden Administration with COVID-19 Vaccine Rollout

After Joseph Biden took office as the 46th President of the United States, Amazon has stepped forward to support the administration's plans for distributing the COVID-19 vaccine. A letter shared with TechCrunch from Worldwide Consumer CEO Dave Clark extends congratulations to President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, along with a commitment “to help you achieve your objective of vaccinating 100 million Americans within your first 100 days in office.”

The communication highlights a target initially announced by Biden during a December press conference where he introduced his pandemic response team.

“My initial 100 days will not fully resolve the COVID-19 pandemic. I cannot guarantee that,” the incoming president stated at the time. “However, we didn’t encounter this situation rapidly, and resolving it won’t be swift; it will require a considerable period. Nevertheless, I firmly believe that within 100 days, we can alter the trajectory of the illness and improve life in America.”

Just recently, Michael Osterholm, an epidemiologist and member of the COVID-19 task force, described the goal as “ambitious […] but achievable,” while also noting the time needed to increase capacity.

Within his letter, Clark outlines Amazon’s existing response to the virus, noting that many employees in warehouses and other roles continued working as essential personnel. The resources Amazon is offering include arrangements with healthcare organizations capable of administering vaccinations directly at Amazon locations.

“We have a contract with a qualified third-party occupational healthcare provider to provide vaccinations at our Amazon facilities,” Clark explains. “We are positioned to act promptly once vaccines become accessible. Furthermore, we are able to utilize our operational infrastructure, information technology, and communication skills to support your administration’s vaccination initiatives. Our large-scale operations enable us to have a substantial and immediate effect in combating COVID-19, and we are prepared to assist you in this undertaking.”
