Amazon Alexa Air Quality Monitor - $70 Launch

Amazon's New Smart Air Quality Monitor
Following a substantial release of smart home products in late September, Amazon continues to introduce new devices as the holiday season approaches.
While perhaps not as attention-grabbing as larger innovations like the Echo Show or home robots, the Smart Air Quality Monitor offers a demonstrably practical benefit.
Key Features and Functionality
This device is engineered to assess air quality by detecting particulate matter. It specifically monitors for substances like carbon monoxide, dust, and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) – airborne chemicals potentially detrimental to health.
Integrated sensors also measure both temperature and humidity levels within the environment.
Notably, the monitor operates without an integrated microphone or speaker.
Alerts regarding air quality concerns are therefore delivered through a paired Echo device or the Alexa app. This design choice minimizes the number of microphones present in a user’s home, which is considered a benefit by some.
Development Based on User Feedback
Amazon highlights that the development of this monitor was directly informed by user feedback gathered during a testing phase.
The device doesn’t simply provide immediate readings.
It also tracks changes in monitored levels over time, allowing users to understand how various activities influence air quality.
Availability
Pre-orders for the Smart Air Quality Monitor are being accepted now, with shipments scheduled to begin next month.
