Amazon Music Unlimited Price Hike: What You Need to Know

Amazon Music Subscription Costs Increase

Amazon has recently announced adjustments to the pricing structure for its Amazon Music Unlimited streaming service. These changes were revealed earlier this week and impact both Prime members and non-Prime subscribers.

Price Adjustments for Individual and Family Plans

For Amazon Prime members, the cost of an Amazon Music Unlimited Individual plan is being increased by one dollar, moving from $9.99 to $10.99 per month. Subscribers who do not have a Prime membership will experience a similar increase, with their monthly fee rising from $10.99 to $11.99.

Furthermore, the Amazon Music Unlimited Family plan is also subject to a price change. The new monthly cost for a Family plan is $19.99, representing a $3 increase from the previous price of $16.99.

Comparison with Competitors

These pricing modifications align Amazon’s service more closely with Spotify, which implemented a price increase for its Premium plan last June. Currently, both Amazon and Spotify’s individual plans are priced higher than those offered by YouTube Music and Apple Music, which both remain at $10.99 per month.

However, Amazon continues to provide a $1 discount on its Music Unlimited Individual plan for its Prime members.

Reasoning Behind the Price Changes

Amazon Music explained the rationale behind these adjustments on its FAQ page. The company stated that the price updates are intended to facilitate the delivery of more content and the introduction of new features to subscribers.

Implementation Timeline

The revised pricing structure took effect immediately for new customers registering for a plan on Wednesday. Existing subscribers will observe the updated charges on their subsequent monthly billing cycle, starting on or after March 5, 2025.

Amazon previously adjusted the pricing of its music streaming subscriptions in August 2023. The justification provided at that time mirrored the current explanation, emphasizing the goal of enhancing content offerings and features for subscribers.
