Alexa von Tobel to Judge Startup Battlefield at TechCrunch Disrupt 2021

Alexa von Tobel, a managing partner and co-founder of Inspired Capital, will participate as a judge for the startups competing in the Startup Battlefield at TechCrunch Disrupt 2021, scheduled for September 21-23.

Applications for the Startup Battlefield are currently being accepted. Entrepreneurs are encouraged to submit their ventures for consideration.

From LearnVest to Inspired Capital

Before establishing Inspired Capital, Alexa von Tobel founded LearnVest in 2008. Her primary objective was to empower women, specifically, with improved investment strategies and comprehensive financial planning knowledge.

LearnVest experienced significant growth, reaching 1.5 million users and securing $75 million in venture capital funding. In May 2015, Northwestern Mutual acquired the company for $250 million.

Leadership at Northwestern Mutual

Subsequent to the acquisition, Alexa von Tobel became Northwestern Mutual’s inaugural chief digital officer. She was later promoted to chief innovation officer.

In this latter role, she was responsible for overseeing Northwestern Mutual’s corporate venture capital division.

Author and Podcast Host

Possessing a Certified Financial Planner designation, Alexa von Tobel is also a recognized author. She penned “Financially Fearless,” a New York Times bestseller released in December 2013.

This was followed by “Financially Forward,” published in May 2019. Furthermore, she hosts “The Founders Project with Alexa von Tobel,” a weekly podcast in collaboration with Inc. magazine, focusing on entrepreneurial stories.

Recognition and Affiliations

Alexa von Tobel’s accomplishments have been widely acknowledged. She is a member of the 2016 Class of Henry Crown Fellows and was selected as an inaugural member of President Obama’s Ambassadors for Global Entrepreneurship.

Her accolades include features in Forbes Magazine, recognition in Fortune’s 40 Under 40 and Most Powerful Women lists, inclusion in Inc. Magazine’s 30 Under 30, and designation as a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum.

Recently, Alexa von Tobel contributed to TechCrunch Early Stage, leading a breakout session dedicated to financial planning for startups.
