Airbnb Tests Kitchen Stocking Service with Instacart - Travel News

Airbnb and Instacart Launch Grocery Ordering Pilot Program
Airbnb is currently testing a new feature in collaboration with Instacart. This pilot program enables guests to order groceries directly through the Airbnb application, both prior to and throughout their stay, as confirmed by the company to TechCrunch on Wednesday.
An Airbnb representative stated that the company consistently evaluates new product enhancements, features, and projects to optimize the user experience for its community.
Pilot Program Details
Following the introduction of Airbnb Services earlier in the year, a grocery delivery pilot program with Instacart will commence in select U.S. cities starting in January.
According to information on Airbnb’s website, the kitchen stocking service will initially be available to a limited number of hosts who possess eligible properties located in Phoenix, Orlando, and Los Angeles.
Bloomberg was the first to report on this development.
Incentives for Hosts
Hosts who fulfill guest grocery pre-orders and arrange for them to be placed in the property before guest arrival will be awarded $25.
Furthermore, a $100 bonus will be provided to hosts upon completion of their first order through the program.
Guests will have the ability to submit Instacart orders via the Airbnb app up to three weeks before their scheduled stay.
Statements from Instacart
“Integrating Instacart’s grocery services directly into the Airbnb app streamlines the process for guests to provision their kitchens and establish a comfortable, home-like atmosphere from the moment they arrive,” explained a spokesperson for Instacart.
“We are pleased to collaborate with Airbnb on this pilot and leverage our extensive retail network and advanced technology to benefit their guests.”
Expansion of Airbnb Services
This partnership with Instacart represents the newest addition to Airbnb’s “Services” platform. Launched in May, this platform allows guests to book various services and experiences, including massages, haircuts, and chef-prepared meals.
These services can be added to an existing booking or reserved independently.
Competitive Landscape
The introduction of Services positions Airbnb in more direct competition with other travel companies such as Tripadvisor, Booking.com, Viator, and GetYourGuide.
Revenue Projections
Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky has projected that Services will contribute an additional $1 billion or more in annual revenue for the company.
