Sorcero Secures $10 Million in Series A Funding

Sorcero announced on Thursday the successful completion of a $10 million Series A funding round. This investment will be used to accelerate the expansion of its medical and technical language intelligence platform.

Growing Demand for Advanced Analytics

The new funding arrives as Sorcero, with headquarters in Washington, D.C. and Cambridge, Massachusetts, experiences a surge in demand. Life sciences and technical firms are increasingly seeking its sophisticated analytics capabilities.

Sorcero’s natural language processing platform streamlines the process for subject-matter experts to locate answers. This facilitates more informed and effective decision-making.

Investment Details

CityRock Venture Partners, through its growth fund managed by H/L Ventures, and Harmonix Fund jointly led the investment round.

New investors including Rackhouse, Mighty Capital, and Leawood VC participated alongside existing investors Castor Ventures and WorldQuant Ventures.

This latest investment brings Sorcero’s total funding to $15.7 million since its inception in 2018.

The Genesis of Sorcero

Dipanwita Das, co-founder and CEO, shared with TechCrunch that her prior work in public policy highlighted a critical need. While scientific content was valuable, it often presented challenges in clarity and accessibility.

She envisioned a more efficient method for enhancing decision-making throughout the healthcare sector. This led to her collaboration with co-founders Walter Bender and Richard Graves, ultimately resulting in the formation of Sorcero.

Focus on Expert Efficiency

“Our primary goal is to empower subject-matter experts to work more quickly, accurately, and with reduced risk of errors,” Das explained. “The advancements in deep learning, coupled with increased accuracy, provide greater transparency.

We are utilized by teams in science affairs and regulatory roles who are responsible for gathering scientific data and communicating it effectively to diverse stakeholders.”

Market Opportunity and Growth

Das estimates the total addressable market for language intelligence to be substantial, reaching $42 billion within the life sciences sector alone.

The company has experienced significant growth, with a 324% year-over-year increase since 2020, driven by this strong demand.

Future Plans

The Series A funding will enable Sorcero to expand its customer base within the life sciences industry.

Investments will be directed towards recruiting talent in both engineering and commercial functions. Funds will also support the development of Sorcero’s go-to-market strategy, targeting additional applications.

Over the next 12 to 18 months, the company will prioritize achieving product-market fit in the medical affairs and regulatory domains and forging new partnerships.

Industry Perspective

Oliver Libby, a partner at CityRock Venture Partners, emphasized that Sorcero’s platform “provides the foundational infrastructure for AI solutions for companies.”

Many organizations have encountered difficulties integrating AI technologies with existing datasets for effective analysis.

Sorcero is “transforming this process, reducing timelines and enhancing accuracy,” and is essential as a universal translator for AI to integrate seamlessly with existing systems, he stated.

The Impact of COVID-19

“The rapid response of the scientific community during the COVID-19 pandemic demonstrated the need for agility,” Libby added. “The accelerated vaccine development was a remarkable achievement of modern science.

A key initial step involved tracking medical resources and connecting them with pharmaceutical companies. Sorcero was ideally suited to address this need during the pandemic.”
