Add Trash Can Icon to Ubuntu Desktop - Easy Guide
Adding a Trash Can Icon to the Ubuntu Desktop
For users transitioning from Windows, Ubuntu offers a way to display a Trash Can icon directly on the desktop. This can provide a familiar experience and convenient access to deleted files.
Accessing the Gnome Configuration Editor
To enable this feature, the Gnome Configuration Editor must be accessed. This is done by opening the run dialog box using the key combination Alt+F2. Then, simply type gconf-editor and press Enter.
Navigating to the Desktop Settings
Within the Gnome Configuration Editor, navigate to the following key path to modify desktop settings:
apps / nautilus / desktop
This path leads to the configuration options specifically controlling the appearance and behavior of the Nautilus file manager's desktop integration.
Enabling the Trash Icon
On the right-hand side of the editor window, locate the entry labeled trash_icon_visible. Simply check the box next to this entry to make the Trash Can icon appear on your desktop.
Furthermore, the name of the trash icon can be customized. The trash_icon_name entry allows for modification of the displayed icon label, if desired.
Once the trash_icon_visible option is enabled, the Trash Can icon will be visible on the Ubuntu desktop, providing a convenient location for managing deleted files.
