Threads Echo Chamber: Glitch Creates Repeating Posts

Threads Bug Creates a Literal Echo Chamber

Concerns regarding social media platforms becoming ideological echo chambers – with claims of X leaning right and Bluesky leaning left – have been circulating. A recent malfunction on Threads has unexpectedly validated these worries, as users are experiencing a repetitive feed phenomenon.

The Repeating Post Glitch

A bug impacting Threads users on both desktop and mobile devices is causing a single post to be duplicated repeatedly. This creates the illusion that all users on a feed are sharing the identical message.

As documented by social media analyst Alexa Heinrich, one user’s post – “Siri, unsubscribe me from 2025” – was replicated across numerous feeds. Consequently, many users appeared to be making the same plea to Apple’s AI assistant, seeking respite from overwhelming negative news.

While this Threads error is largely harmless and somewhat amusing, it follows other recent incidents involving Meta’s applications.

Last week, a separate issue allowed some users to inadvertently publish their private conversations with Meta AI to a public forum. This exposed sensitive personal data, including details about medical conditions, contact details, and legal matters.

Meta's Response

The root cause of the repeating post bug remains unclear. However, Andy Stone, Meta’s Director of Communications, acknowledged the problem after app researcher Jane Manchun Wong brought it to their attention.

Stone stated, “Whoops, well that clearly shouldn’t have happened! We’re working on getting it fixed now.”

Wong subsequently confirmed Stone’s response, reiterating the ongoing efforts to resolve the issue.

The company is actively working to correct the error and prevent its recurrence.
