Boucan Sound System - Volume 1

Recently, a three-day period was spent in a picturesque coastal setting near Ste. Anne-des-Monts, located in the Gaspésie region of south-eastern Québec. It was during this time that an acquaintance was made with Phil, known professionally as FunkyFlip, a musician hailing from Montréal.
FunkyFlip dedicates his summers to both work and musical collaboration at the Sea Shack. He is a compensated performer alongside Mad'MoiZèle GIRAF, and during the winter months, initiated a collaborative project with Louzgain, a ragga MC based in Marseille.
The Genesis of Boucan Sound System
From this collaboration, Boucan Sound System emerged, fueled by a shared ambition to craft a contemporary interpretation of reggamuffin and dancehall music. The outcome is an invigorating album, ideally suited as the musical backdrop for a summertime beach gathering.

This album came to my attention through a recommendation from Dave at Chamberlain Drive Records. He shared details regarding the project’s origins and artistic direction.
About the Artists
Friends with the Help is an independent musical group comprised of three members: Low Lux (vocals), Young Nige (vocals), and K-Rec (production). Their sound blends lyrical performance with expertly crafted beats.
"East Van Shit" and the East Vancouver Experience
The debut single, "East Van Shit," offers a vivid portrayal of life in East Vancouver. It focuses on the area’s unique characteristics.
These include affordable and flavorful Chinese baked goods, spontaneous street hockey matches, and compelling narratives from everyday life.
Formation and Collaboration
Lux and Young Nige collaborated as a rapping duo for a period of two years prior to connecting with K-Rec. Their meeting occurred at a regular rap event held in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside.
K-Rec subsequently became an integral part of the group, taking on the roles of producer, mixer, mastering engineer, and overall sound architect.
