Zuckerberg Uses Quest 2 for Fitness: 'Like a Peloton'

Facebook's Vision for the Quest 2: Beyond Gaming

Facebook is actively working to redefine the perception of the Quest 2, positioning it as significantly more than just a gaming console worn on the face.

During the Facebook Connect developer conference, CEO Mark Zuckerberg emphasized the company’s dedication to establishing the Quest as a dedicated platform for fitness applications developed by third parties, such as Supernatural and FitXR.

Quest 2 as a Connected Fitness Device

Zuckerberg directly likened the Quest 2 to the Peloton, framing it as a comparable connected fitness device.

“Many of you are already utilizing Quest to maintain your physical fitness, enabling workouts in entirely novel ways,” Zuckerberg stated during his keynote address.

He further elaborated, “It functions similarly to a Peloton, however, instead of requiring a stationary bike, all that is needed is a VR headset, opening up possibilities ranging from boxing and swordplay to even dance-based exercise.”

Introducing the "Active Pack"

The company is reinforcing this focus on fitness with upcoming hardware developments.

Next year will see the release of an “Active Pack” designed to allow users to modify their Quest 2 headset for enhanced workout functionality.

This pack will include improved controller grips and a facial pad specifically designed to mitigate the issue of headset sweat during exercise.

Integrated Fitness Tracking

In recent times, Facebook has increased its promotion of fitness features within the Quest 2 experience.

They introduced Oculus Move, a system that integrates activity measurement and calorie-burning tracking directly into the headset.

Oculus Move provides users with data to monitor their fitness progress while using the Quest 2.
