TikTok Ban Delayed: Trump Extends Deadline Again

TikTok's Future in the U.S. Extended Again
An additional 90-day extension regarding TikTok’s operations within the United States is slated to be issued by President Donald Trump, according to a White House announcement made on Tuesday.
The existing extension, initially enacted in April, was scheduled to conclude on Thursday, June 19.
White House Statement
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt communicated to CBS News that President Trump intends to sign a further Executive Order this week.
This order will maintain TikTok’s functionality for American users. The President has repeatedly expressed his desire to prevent a complete shutdown of the platform.
Leavitt further stated that the 90-day period will be utilized by the Administration to finalize an agreement.
The goal is to ensure continued access to TikTok for U.S. citizens, coupled with robust safeguards for their data security and privacy.
Background of the TikTok Ban
The U.S. Supreme Court previously affirmed the legality of a law aimed at prohibiting TikTok.
This ruling led to the removal of support for the application from both app stores and internet service providers operating within the country.
Shortly after assuming office, President Trump initially issued an executive order to postpone the ban.
This delay was intended to facilitate exploration of a potential agreement with ByteDance, TikTok’s parent company, concerning the divestiture of its U.S. operations.
Previous Extensions
On April 4, a 75-day extension was granted to allow the short-form video application to remain operational.
This series of extensions demonstrates the ongoing negotiations and considerations surrounding TikTok’s presence in the American market.
The Administration continues to prioritize both user access and national data security concerns.
