Pinterest Co-founder Evan Sharp Transitions to Advisory Role

Pinterest has recently announced that co-founder Evan Sharp is stepping down from his full-time position as chief design & creative officer. This move will see him joining Jony Ive’s newly established creative collective, LoveFrom. Sharp’s final day in his current capacity was October 14, 2021.

Following his departure from day-to-day operations, Sharp will assume an advisory role within Pinterest. His contributions will be centered on guiding the company’s strategy, product development, design direction, brand identity, and overall culture. He will also retain his position on Pinterest’s board of directors.

The Founding and Evolution of Pinterest

Founded in March 2010 by Evan Sharp, Ben Silbermann, and Paul Sciarra, Pinterest acknowledges Sharp’s pivotal leadership in its transformation. He guided the platform’s growth from a simple visual discovery engine into a globally recognized inspiration hub.

During his tenure, Sharp was responsible for overseeing both product strategy and user experience. This included the architectural design of key features like the Shopping and Creator platforms.

“Looking back over the past decade, I am deeply grateful and proud of what our team and community have accomplished,” stated Sharp. “Together, we have created Pinterest – a technology company and platform that serves as a positive ‘home of inspiration’ for hundreds of millions globally.”

He continued, “After careful consideration of how I can maximize my impact, I’ve decided to dedicate my focus to joining Jony Ive and the exceptional creative team at LoveFrom. I anticipate continuing to collaborate with Ben and the Pinterest team as the company evolves into a leading global platform where creators and merchants empower individuals to design the lives they envision.”

Ben Silbermann, Pinterest’s co-founder and CEO, commented, “Evan’s distinctive talent, vision, and dedication have been fundamental to establishing Pinterest as a source of inspiration for a vast global audience.”

Silbermann added, “I am thankful for his partnership, leadership, and friendship over the last ten years, and I am pleased that he will continue to support Pinterest as a Board member and advisor.”

Organizational Changes at Pinterest

Pinterest has clarified that Sharp’s co-founding role will not be directly replaced, as it was a unique position within the company structure. Furthermore, no immediate changes to the reporting structure are expected.

The design team will continue its operations under the direction of Head of Product Naveen Gavini, with ongoing leadership provided by Head of Design Lindsay Mindler.

LoveFrom and its Growing Team

The specifics of Sharp’s role at LoveFrom remain undisclosed. However, the firm has already attracted several former Apple employees, including Wan Si, Eugene Whang, Chris Wilson, and Patch Kessler. It is worth noting that Jeff Tiller departed from LoveFrom earlier this summer.
