Orix Invests $60M in OurCrowd - Fintech News

ORIX Corporation, a prominent financial services organization headquartered in Japan, has announced a $60 million strategic investment in OurCrowd, an Israel-based crowdsourcing platform. As part of this agreement, OurCrowd will grant the firm access to its extensive network of startup companies. The two entities also plan to work together on developing financial products and investment prospects for both the Japanese and international markets, offering access to OurCrowd’s venture funds and individual companies within its portfolio.
“ORIX represents a significant addition to OurCrowd as a globally recognized leader in diverse business and financial solutions,” stated Jon Medved, CEO of OurCrowd, in today’s official announcement. “We are highly optimistic about the possibilities of jointly reshaping the venture capital landscape and establishing a robust pathway for our pioneering companies to enter key Asian markets.”
Although ORIX currently conducts business in 37 nations, including the United States, this marks the company’s inaugural investment within Israel. This investment occurs during a period of increasing Japanese financial activity in Israel. Notably, earlier this year, Israel’s national airline, El Al, was preparing to initiate direct flights to Tokyo; although these plans were suspended due to the pandemic, they demonstrate the growing commercial ties between the two nations.
“We are pleased to be investing in OurCrowd, a leading and highly active venture investor in Israel and a globally recognized, innovative venture capital platform,” commented Kiyoshi Habiro, CEO of ORIX UK. “We aim to collaborate closely with OurCrowd to support their continued rapid expansion and facilitate the introduction of cutting-edge Israeli technology to Japan’s substantial industrial and financial industries.”
To date, OurCrowd has invested in 220 companies through its 22 funds. Notable successful investments include Beyond Meat, Lemonade, JUMP Bike, Briefcam, and Argus. ORIX also maintains a varied investment portfolio, encompassing areas such as real estate, banking, and energy services.
