Meta Quest 2 Update: Wireless PC Streaming & Enhanced Office Mode

Oculus Quest 2 Set to Receive Significant Software Enhancements
Following a period of relative quiet regarding software updates, Oculus, a division of Facebook, is detailing new functionalities planned for its Quest 2 standalone virtual reality headset.
Key Features in the Upcoming v28 Update
The forthcoming v28 software update will introduce several notable features, including wireless Oculus Link support, enhanced “Infinite Office” capabilities, and the introduction of 120hz support. While a precise release date hasn't been announced, the official blog suggests an imminent rollout.
Wireless Oculus Link – Air Link
A primary addition is a wireless iteration of Oculus Link, designated Air Link. This will enable Quest 2 users to stream PC-based VR content directly to their headsets.
This functionality expands access to graphically demanding games previously exclusive to the now largely discontinued Rift platform. Although users have previously achieved similar results using third-party applications like Virtual Desktop, Air Link provides a native solution.
Currently, this upgrade is limited to Quest 2 owners and will not be available for the original Quest headset. Both the headset and PC software must be updated to version v28 to utilize this feature.
Infinite Office Improvements
Alongside Air Link, the v28 update brings enhancements to “Infinite Office,” a VR workspace designed to integrate physical keyboards and mice into the virtual environment.
Initially showcased at the Facebook Connect conference, Infinite Office aims to facilitate interaction with desktop-style applications within VR. New features include expanded keyboard compatibility.
Initially, support is limited to the Logitech K830 keyboard model, with plans for broader compatibility in future updates. Users of the supported keyboard will benefit from visual representations of both their hands and the keyboard itself within VR, aiming for accurate typing.
The system will also allow users to define the location of their physical desk within the virtual space, aiding in orientation. Currently, functionality appears primarily focused on accessing the Oculus Browser.
120hz Support for Developers
Oculus is also providing developers with the ability to experiment with 120hz frame-rate support for their applications.
While no applications or system software currently utilize this higher frame rate, the feature is available in an experimental capacity for developers to begin implementation and testing.
Gradual Rollout
Oculus confirms that the new software update will be deployed to users in a “gradual” manner.
