Meta Invests Millions in Pro-AI Super PAC

Meta Launches Super PAC to Influence California AI Regulation
Meta is initiating a super PAC designed to financially back California political candidates who advocate for minimal regulation of artificial intelligence (AI). This development was first reported by Politico.
The move follows similar commitments from other major Silicon Valley companies. Andreessen Horowitz and OpenAI’s Greg Brockman have jointly pledged $100 million to a new super PAC supporting pro-AI policies.
Details of Meta’s New PAC
Meta intends to invest a substantial amount – tens of millions of dollars – into its newly formed group, officially named Mobilizing Economic Transformation Across California.
Brian Rice, Meta’s Vice President of Public Policy and the leader of this new PAC, has voiced concerns that the current regulatory climate in Sacramento poses a threat. He believes it “could stifle innovation, block AI progress, and put California’s technology leadership at risk.”
Previous Lobbying Efforts
Earlier this year, Meta actively lobbied against state Senator Scott Wiener’s SB-53. This bill would have mandated AI companies to publicly disclose their safety and security procedures, as well as report any safety-related incidents.
Last year, the company also played a role in preventing the passage of the Kids Online Safety Act, which was anticipated to gain approval.
Expanding Political Influence
Meta has already contributed financially to various candidates in local elections, spanning both major political parties.
The establishment of this new PAC indicates a strategic shift towards influencing elections at the statewide level. This includes the upcoming gubernatorial race scheduled for 2026.
