LinkedIn CEO on AI Writing Assistants: Usage Lower Than Expected

LinkedIn's AI Feature: Unexpected Adoption Rates

Despite widespread acceptance of AI among LinkedIn members, the platform’s feature offering AI-powered suggestions for refining posts hasn't gained traction as anticipated, as stated by CEO Ryan Roslansky.

Roslansky shared with Bloomberg that the feature’s popularity has fallen short of expectations. He attributes this to a significantly higher threshold for content creation on LinkedIn.

The Stakes are Higher on LinkedIn

The reason for this hesitancy, according to Roslansky, is that LinkedIn functions as a digital professional record. Users are more cautious about their online presence due to the potential for negative repercussions.

He explained that criticism on platforms like X or TikTok carries less weight than being publicly challenged on LinkedIn. Such criticism can directly hinder a user’s career prospects and economic opportunities.

Growing Demand for AI Skills

Interestingly, Roslansky highlighted a substantial surge in AI-related job postings on the platform. Over the last year, there has been a sixfold increase in positions requiring AI expertise.

Concurrently, the number of LinkedIn users actively showcasing AI skills on their profiles has increased twentyfold.

AI Assistance for Executive Communication

Roslansky also revealed his personal use of AI tools. He utilizes Microsoft Copilot to refine his communications with Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella.

Specifically, he employs the tool to ensure his emails convey a level of intelligence and insight aligned with Nadella’s expectations – aiming to “sound Satya-smart” before sending correspondence.

This demonstrates a pragmatic application of AI even at the highest levels of corporate communication.
