TC Sessions: Space 2021 - Sustainable In-Space Operations

The Expanding Frontier of Space Commerce

While the expanse of space is immense, the portion viable for productive and sustainable human activity, particularly for commercial ventures, is comparatively limited – and becoming increasingly congested.

We are pleased to feature three leading experts at TC Sessions: Space 2021 who are pioneering initiatives to enhance the accessibility, cost-effectiveness, and safety of in-space operations.

Expert Panel Discussion

Daniel Ceperley, CEO and co-founder of LeoLabs, Nobu Okada, CEO and founder of Astroscale, and Lucy Condakchian, GM of Robotics at Maxar, will participate in a discussion concerning on-orbit operations.

The panel will address the requirements for establishing LEO as a functional and sustainable environment for commercial space companies, especially considering the anticipated surge in satellite numbers over the coming years.

LeoLabs: Tracking the Orbital Landscape

LeoLabs has become the foremost private entity dedicated to tracking objects in low Earth orbit, encompassing debris from previous launches, operational satellites, and other elements.

The company provides leading commercial collision warning services and real-time Space Domain Awareness (SDA) for LEO, powered by a global network of radars and a cloud-based software platform.

Astroscale: Addressing the Challenge of Space Debris

Astroscale was founded with the specific goal of mitigating the escalating problem of space debris.

The company is developing technologies for satellite end-of-life management, the removal of existing orbital debris, and life extension programs to maximize the utility of active satellites beyond their initial lifespan.

Maxar: Robotic Servicing in Orbit

Maxar is focused on in-space robotic technologies designed to service satellites and other spacecraft while in orbit.

This includes participation in NASA’s OSAM-1 program, which aims to refuel and reposition an existing orbital satellite, as well as the SPIDER program, demonstrating robotic on-orbit assembly of satellites for more affordable launches.

Event Details

TC Sessions: Space 2021 will be held on December 14-15.

Two full days are dedicated to exploring the rapidly evolving technologies and opportunities within the space sector – from in-space propulsion and lunar sampling to investment trends and public-private partnerships.
