learn how to score your first check with tmv’s soraya darabi on november 10

Securing initial funding represents the most crucial – and often the most challenging – step for any new startup.
While the increasing number of accelerators, rolling funds, community investment groups, active angel investors, and established institutional investors has expanded the possibilities for founders, obtaining funding remains a significant hurdle, particularly for women and people of color.
On Tuesday, November 10th at 11:00 a.m. Pacific Time / 2:00 p.m. Eastern Time, we will host venture capitalist Soraya Darabi from TMV on the Extra Crunch Live platform. The discussion will center on strategies for securing that initial investment for early-stage companies and the common errors founders make that often result in rejection. We will examine her investment principles, covering areas like the future of work and education technology, and delve into the specific metrics and product features she expects to see during an initial pitch.
Darabi established TMV, previously known as Trail Mix Ventures, in 2016, and has curated a portfolio where the majority of companies are owned by women and minorities. This portfolio includes businesses like Bravely, a platform focused on employee well-being; Parsley Health, a company providing comprehensive healthcare solutions; and Ridwell, an innovative waste reduction service. TMV frequently provides a company’s first round of institutional funding.
Prior to her work with TMV, Darabi held a position at The New York Times, managing digital partnerships and social media marketing. She also co-founded two ventures: Zady, which supports sustainable fashion production, and Foodspotting, a visual directory for discovering local cuisine that was later acquired by OpenTable.
The startup landscape currently features a surplus of available capital, a situation that may undergo substantial changes in the near future. We invite you to join us to gain insights into a venture capitalist’s perspective on the coming months, and potentially, the conclusion of 2020.
