iOS 18 Adoption Rate: 68% of iPhones Now Running Latest Version

iOS 18 Adoption Rates Revealed by Apple
Apple recently published updated statistics on Friday concerning the uptake of iOS 18 among its user base. Initially made available to the public in September 2024, the mobile operating system is presently operating on 68% of all devices that support it.
This adoption rate increases to 78% when considering only iPhones that have been released within the past four years.
Breakdown of iOS Versions in Use
Currently, 19% of all iPhones are operating on iOS 17, while 13% are utilizing an older version of the operating system. A similar trend is observed within the newer iPhone models.
Specifically, 19% of iPhones released in the last four years are still running iOS 17. Only 5% of older iPhones are running earlier iOS versions, a figure consistent with the overall distribution of devices shipped with iOS 17 or 18.
Early adopters generally prioritize installing the newest OS updates, which contributes to this lower percentage. As noted by 9 to 5 Mac, these numbers closely mirror the adoption rates reported by Apple for iOS 17 in 2024.
Apple Intelligence and iOS Updates
A key feature introduced with iOS 18 was Apple Intelligence, the company’s approach to generative AI. This functionality debuted with the 18.1 update, with further enhancements arriving in version 18.2.
The latest publicly available version is currently iOS 18.2.1. The rollout of Apple Intelligence has not been without challenges, including a temporary removal of News notification summaries due to an issue.
iPadOS 18 Adoption
Adoption rates for iPadOS 18 are notably lower compared to its iPhone counterpart. Currently, 53% of all iPads are running the latest operating system.
However, this number rises to 63% for iPads released within the last four years.
These figures indicate a slightly slower uptake of the new operating system on iPad devices.
