Instagram Rage Shake & Delete Carousel Posts - New Features

Instagram Introduces “Rage Shake” Feature for Bug Reporting
A novel “Rage Shake” functionality has been implemented by Instagram, enabling users to signal app malfunctions simply by shaking their mobile devices. The introduction of this feature was communicated by Instagram’s chief, Adam Mosseri, via a video posted on Twitter, detailing its operational mechanics.
Mosseri explained, “Have you ever experienced issues while using Instagram, such as Stories failing to load, audio problems, or difficulties uploading photos, leading to frustration? Now, a simple shake of your phone will bring up an option to report the problem directly.”
Reporting Issues and Prioritizing Bug Fixes
Upon initiating the shake-to-report action, users are presented with a means to describe the encountered issue and submit a report. Mosseri emphasized that this mechanism will assist the company in prioritizing bug resolutions and identifying further areas for app improvement.
Currently, the availability of this feature is limited to users in the United States, encompassing both iOS and Android platforms.
Enhanced Carousel Post Editing Capabilities
Alongside the “Rage Shake” feature, Instagram is also deploying the ability to selectively remove individual items from carousel posts containing three or more images or videos. Carousel feed posts can accommodate up to ten photos and videos within a single post.
This update allows users to delete specific elements from an existing carousel. It is important to note, however, that adding new items, replacing existing ones, or altering the order of items within the carousel are not supported at this time.
Mosseri acknowledged that the option to delete from carousels was a long-awaited and frequently requested addition.
How to Delete Items from a Carousel
To remove an image or video from a carousel post, users should tap the three dots located in the upper-right corner of the post and select “edit.” Subsequently, they can swipe to the desired item and tap the “delete” icon in the top-left corner.
This functionality is presently exclusive to iOS users, with Android support scheduled for a future release.
Recent Feature Rollouts
These latest additions follow a series of new features recently launched by Instagram. Last week, the platform initiated testing of a “Take a Break” feature, which prompts users to pause their Instagram usage after a predetermined interval – 10, 20, or 30 minutes.
Furthermore, a new “Add Yours” sticker has been introduced, facilitating the creation of public threads within Stories. This feature enables users to respond to other users’ Stories with their own contributions, based on a given prompt or topic.
Instagram continues to innovate, responding to user feedback and enhancing the overall app experience.
