Windows 7 Media Center: Increase Skip & Replay Intervals

Customizing Skip and Replay Intervals in Windows 7 Media Center

Do you desire greater control over the skip forward and back durations within Windows 7 Media Center? This guide details how to modify the registry to personalize your skip and replay intervals.

By default, Media Center utilizes a 29-second skip forward and a 7-second replay (skip back) duration for both video and recorded television content. While adequate for some users, these intervals can be adjusted to minimize the number of clicks required during commercial breaks.

Important Note: Before altering the registry, creating a backup is highly recommended. Refer to previous documentation on registry backup procedures if you are unfamiliar with this process.

Accessing the Registry Editor

To begin, open the Registry Editor by clicking the Start button, typing "regedit" into the search field, and pressing "Enter." Confirm any User Account Control (UAC) prompts by clicking "Yes."
